Challenge
The client faced significant delays with both ocean freight and rail carriers, disrupting their tight schedule and incurring substantial costs.
Solution
J.M. Rodgers (JMR) proposed a transloading solution to bypass the unreliable rail carriers entirely.
- Port Control: JMR took control of the container at its initial port of arrival.
- Drayage Services: The container was transported via drayage services to a dedicated warehouse
- Container Breakdown: At the warehouse, the container was broken down, inventory was taken, and goods were reloaded onto dedicated trucks.
- Linehaul Services: The goods were then line hauled to any destination across the country, ensuring continuous production.
Results and Benefits
The implementation of this transloading process yielded significant benefits:
- Reduced Transit Times: Transit times were reduced by an average of 10-15 days.
- Cost Savings: Although transloading is more expensive than rail transportation, it ultimately saved money by preventing production shutdowns due to rail delays.
